Third Chilean Workshop on Theoretical and Numerical Astrophysics

Thursday, June 29th, 2017

Departamento de Astronomía, Universidad de Concepción, Chile

The workshop also dubbed Theory Day was a great success with about 25 participants from all over Chile.

The slides from the Geryon 2 presentation can be found HERE

Programme

We have shortened the meeting to one single day.

All talks will be 20 minutes + 10 minutes discussion except the last talk (20 + 25). Session chairs are advised to keep the schedule rigerously: After 20 minutes we show a yellow card which means finish your sentence and switch to the conclusions. If disobeyed we show a red card and disconnect the laptop.

Coffee breaks are financed by the Theory and Star Formation Group. Lunch and Dinner are optional and have to be paid by the participants.

Scientific Rationale: Models and simulations provide a nexus between theory and observations, and over the last years significant efforts have emerged in the Chilean community to develop new computational approaches, sophisticated simulations as well as refined theoretical calculations. To stimulate and extend the existing developments and to allow new collaborations between the different groups in Chile, a first very successful "Workshop on Numerical Models and Simulations" was held in May 2015 at Universidad Andres Bello and organized by Patricia Tissera, and the "Second Chilean Workshop on Theoretical and Numerical Astrophysics" was organized on the San Joaquin campus at Pontificia Universidad Catolica de Chile.

During the first two workshops, contacts between the participants have already been established and we had many presentations on the wide scope of theoretical and numerical astrophysical science in Chile. In the new third workshop of the series, we want to provide the opportunity for larger in-depth presentations of individual projects (30 min), which will be useful to discuss in more detail about the science and to pursue collaborations among specific projects. We further plan to share time both for scientific discussions as well as on the general development of theoretical astrophysics in Chile.

The priority during the meeting will be to give presentations to postdocs and students, but also new professors working on theoretical astrophysics will have the opportunity to present their science.
